Farécla Bonnet Painting Competition (2019) - Meet the Finalists #4: Vladimir

Bonnet Submission by Vlad Iliev

Meet the Finalists: Vladimir Iliev

Vlad is one of five finalists in the Farécla Apprentice & Student Bonnet Painting Competition (2019).

He is 19 years old and a level 2 paint technician apprentice at Barnfield College, Luton.

“I got into car painting after deciding to follow my dream which is to restore cars,” said Vlad. “I transferred myself from a mechanical course to body and paint. I had learned a lot about the mechanical side of cars from my Saturday job as a mechanic at a local garage. I’ve been doing car refinishing for 2 years now and I am truly enjoying it.”

Vlad said that he got the inspiration for his car bonnet design in the competition from his girlfriend’s cat, which “everybody loves”.

“Having decided on incorporating a cat into the design, I did a couple of designs to try to show the secrecy of the cat. My intention was to show the mystery of cats and their character.”

“If I win first prize I am going to invest the money in materials and a spray gun for my future projects and designs and really learn how to use different types of special effect paint and pinstriping. I really enjoyed the process of designing the car bonnet and the satisfaction it gave me.”
