2024 Contest Now Open!

The search is on... to find and reward the UK’s most talented Apprentice & Student painters!

Farécla is delighted to confirm the long awaited return of the Apprentice & Student Bonnet Painting Competition for 2024 after a hiatus period.

This competition not only showcases the amazing skills of the current crop of young painters in our industry, but also serves as a practical learning opportunity - with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

...It's been a while!

Farécla never lost faith in providing recognition and a showcase for the skills of the UK's talented young painters - and was delighted to announce the return of the contest at the ABP Club Annual Convention in November 2023 and subsequently in the ABP Club Magazine's Winter Issue

Speaking to the ABP Club, David Stokes (Marketing Manager for Farécla) had this to say about the contests return:

“After a great first two years in running the contest unfortunately COVID put a stop to college courses and the competition and we had to make the necessary decision to put the competition on Hiatus... but the need for more young painters and polishers in our industry didn’t change and nor did Farécla’s commitment to this very positive initiative,” said David Stokes

“When we first looked at bringing back the competition it was too soon and courses were still in the process of re-opening making it impossible to generate enough entrants to justify a national competition. Now, with a renewed focus on apprenticeships... the time feels right!”

How does the contest work?

Entrants are tasked with designing and painting a bonnet that is in keeping with the design brief within their place of employment or education under the supervision of their mentor.

The winning bonnet that best follows the design brief, and is chosen by our expert panel of judges, will go on to be displayed at Farécla HQ and awarded a grand prize!

Why Take Part?

Prizes for making the grand finals start at £250 cash with a complete G360 Super Fast Polishing System kit - with the top prize of £1000, the G360 system kit and a cordless polishing machine up for grabs.

In addition, there is also a GoPro prize for the best multimedia submission - regardless of the bonnet qualifying for the later stages of the contest.

Also, each entrant will receive a pack of polishing materials - including G360 Super Fast Compound - to help them achieve the perfect finish before taking their submission photos (whilst supplies last).

David-John "DJ" Cousins (Sales & Marketing Content Coordinator) for Farécla - and organiser of the Bonnet Painting Competition - offered some further insights on rewards beyond the monetary when he spoke to the ABP Club:

“Clearly, doing well in the competition is a feather in the cap - and plus point on the CV - of the young painters concerned, but something we found previously is that for many entrants the competition brought the older and younger painters closer together as the bonnet project was a focal point for more experienced painters to offer advice, tips and encouragement to their younger counterparts”,

"It was a matter of pride for the whole shop if one of their apprentices reached the semi-finals or final. I think it’s also a positive that the competition invites people across the bodyshop industry to get involved and show their support for the industry’s up-and-coming painters by casting a vote online at the semi-final stage. The competition really has a lot to commend it.”
