Competition Overview

The 2024 Apprentice & Student Bonnet Painting Competition is now open and the entry form is available to download!

-----

The Bonnet Painting Competition was created to highlight and reward the amazing skills of the current crop of young painters while increasing awareness of the refinish sector to the next generation.

Entrants are tasked with designing and painting a bonnet that is in keeping with the design brief within their place of employment or education under the supervision of their mentor.

Entrants are asked to submit photos of their painted bonnet in addition to an overview of their process and products used.

Entries are then judged in a preliminary round before being shortlisted for the semi-finals and later the grand final where our expert panel of judges will decide the winning bonnet

Design Brief

  • Your bonnet design must only use the Farécla colour palette of Yellow (RAL1018, Pantone 116C) Black, White and Grey(s)/Silver(s).

TIP: A 500g or 1kg Farécla Compound Bottle (such as the SFC501 bottle included in the entrant pack) can be used as a colour reference for the Yellow

  • A Farécla (single colour or coloured accent) logo must be painted somewhere on the bonnet in keeping with the competition colour scheme
  • Your bonnet must also be no wider than 1.6m and no longer than 1.6m.

Other than those stipulations, the design of the bonnet is entirely the entrant’s choice and entrants should find plenty of room to be creative – it can be abstract, geometric, realistic or stylized as long as the design keeps to the colour palette.

For a basic example you could take something such as a union jack and replace the blue with black and the red with yellow, keeping the white as white.

The logo can be as a sign-off, headline or even incorporated somewhere within the design itself! Our new look, text only logo to give entrants more freedom with the placement and design.
