Farécla Bonnet Painting Competition (2024) - Meet the Finalists: Rylee

Ahead of the 2024 Grand Finals, Farécla conducted a series of interviews with this year's finalists. Today the spotlight is on Rylee Gale (19) from Barnfield College. Rylee has recently completed his final year in a Motor Vehicle Body and Paint course.

"I've always loved motorsports and the looks of cars - especially the paint jobs and racing livery"

Speaking to Rylee, it was clear that Rylee had a deep love for motorsports - particularly for BriSCA Formula One Stock Car Racing

"My grandfather was a racer so it's always been part of the family - I believe I went to my first meet when I was 1 month old!"

He event runs a YouTube channel with a friend - ShortOvalRacingUK - with lots of coverage and highlights of the sport

Rylee learnt about the competition through his college lecturer Sachit Shah (Engineering Department, Body and Paint Lecturer) who encouraged Rylee - and some of his fellow students - to take part.

Rylee's passion for BriSCA F1 Stock Cars inspired his bonnet design; creating a Farécla style reimagining of 2023 World Champion Tom Harris's stock car wing.

There were lots of challenges in pulling of this design but Rylee had the support of his mentor to offer some top tips as he got to work:

"Sachit suggested the black outline around the yellow portion of the bonnet so I gave it a go and I think it really helped complete the look and make it pop"

Despite some of the challenges, Rylee has managed to create a striking bonnet

"Starting with a plain panel, I've turned it into a design I’m really proud of. " 

Lastly, Farécla asked Rylee what he hoped to do with the prize money:

"I do my parents so that'll come first - but after that I'm sure I'll think of something. Maybe another Tom Harris t-shirt."
