Two Podiums for Tom at Thruxton
Thruxton saw fantastic results for Team HARD last weekend, collecting two 1st places and one 2nd place in the Independents Trophy. Tom Onslow-Cole started Race 1, only his 7th race in the brand new PPCGB.com/Kraftwerk VW Passat, in 7th position following a good qualifying round. With a strong run, he moved up to 4th before a final lap puncture for Andy Jordan allowed him to push past into 3rd.
Race 2 was even better with Tom getting ahead of former champion, Jason Plato, during the Goodwood corner and earning himself 2nd position and his 2nd podium of the weekend. He finished 4th in the final race and has now jumped up the championship standings to 9th.
With several modifications in planning, including reducing the weight of the car by 30kg, Tom is optimistic of an even better result next time round: “I think we have loads more to come from the car, which is fantastic. We have gone through a lot of major breakthroughs and now we can start to drill down into the little tweaks that really make a difference.”
Thruxton also seemed promising for fellow G3 sponsored racer, Jack Goff. After qualifying in 14th position, he made his way up to 9th by the end of Race 2. With luck on his side, his number was then drawn in the reverse grid and was promoted to start the final race in pole position.
However, a complex turn on the first lap saw Goff pushed off the track by Plato, damaging the back of his Vauxhall Insignia and demoting him to 4th. Two further crashes in the following laps, one on the very same corner, resulted in further damage and he had to be pulled out the race. He now stands 16th.
Matt Hale of Team G3 comments on last round’s racing: “Team HARD had a great race weekend and they’ve got to be the most improved team of the season so far.”
They now have a few more weeks before their next race on 9th June at Oulton Park and we’re looking forward to seeing what Team HARD has for us next!
