Team G3 still leading the Championship
Team G3 had their work cut out at the Llandow Circuit last weekend with one driver down and the blazing sun creating sticky driving conditions.
Off to a tricky start due to a mechanical fault showing up in practice, their luck changed as soon as the vehicle had been switched leaving Team G3 to complete their best ever qualifying session with a 3rd place overall (1st in class) and perfect preparation for the upcoming race.
Taking his place in the 20 car line up, Matt Hale started the fourth race of the season off cautiously not wanting to make any errors that would force him to the back of the grid. After losing two places Matt fought hard over the next five laps finally regaining his position and overtaking the title rival team Muffler.
In a strong position Team G3 pulled in for the first pit stop changing over to driver Stewart Luetchford all ready for the next stint. However, with the competition hot on their heels, Team G3 got caught up in traffic costing them the lead and allowing the competition to gain a 15 second advantage.
Following the second pit stop driver Matt Hale pushed forward over the course of the next twenty laps and finally after a couple of failed overtake attempts managed to pass and pull out a margin on rival team Muffler, leaving Team G3 more determined than ever to win.
The goal over the remaining three stints was to keep out of trouble, avoid accidents and make it a clean and fast drive to remain first in the Rookie Endurance class. With their heads down Team G3 had smooth pit stops and firmly kept 11 seconds between themselves and their closest rivals leaving them with a brilliant finish of 3rd place overall (1st in class).
Goals such as staying with the current tactics and improving their starts, as mentioned by Team G3 driver Matt Hale after the last race, seem to have pointed the team in the right direction as they still lead the 100 Karting Championship 2014 by 10 points and have been left in a good place for the months break coming up before the next race on 3rd August in Buckmore Park.
Highlights for round 4 will be released shortly on our G3pro YouTube channel.
