Team G3 steam ahead!
The penultimate race of the Club 100 Endurance Championship took Matt, Stewart and Barry to Llandow Circuit; and despite it being their first race there, Team G3 really showed their pace.
His second time of the season, it was Barry’s turn to start the race. After starting in 9th after a not-so-successful qualifying round, he showed he could get to race pace quickly and gained several positions. However, he perhaps took the circuit a little too aggressively and bumped too many of his competitors along the way. Spotted by the Race Director, this earned the team their first Black Flag of the season and a Drive Through penalty, dropping them to the back of the grid once again. Fortunately, back in form and with a more subtle race strategy, Barry was able to gain some spaces back before the team’s first pit stop and race switch over.
After taking over from Barry, Matt was also keen to make up some places before handing over to Stewart on switch over number 2. It was at this point that the classic Welsh weather came in, with rain pouring down on the circuit as Stewart raced around it for 10 laps. However he kept a level head and managed to keep his kart going in the right direction, allowing him to make up several more places whilst his competitors spun out!
Overall the team finished 4th and now stand 4th in the championship. Commenting on the their performance and plans, Team G3 leader Matt Hale said: “I’m really pleased with Barry and Stewart’s racing this week; especially Stewart who’s improved so much over the season, and at Llandow he showed good race pace and race craft. Barry on the other hand was battling with me again for the fastest lap time, which he almost did but I beat him by 0.019s! As a team, we got some great points again and we’re really hoping to secure 4th place or higher in the final round.”
