Team Farécla make it a trio of podiums at Whilton Mill
Teams G3Pro and Farécla returned to Whilton Mill for a third and
final time in 2015 – with a third-place podium finish at round 4 and
another third place at the Whilton anniversary race back in August, both
teams were optimistic in completing the hat-trick of podium finishes
at the Northampton circuit.
Greeted by sunshine for the ninth time this season, G3Pro went out for
practice to warm up and got on the pace quickly. During the opening
laps of qualifying, Barry noticed that the kart felt slightly down on
power and knew they were in for a long day at the office. The team
ended qualifying in 13th place.
The start of the race was hectic to say the least and unfortunately the
team picked up their first black flag of the season for a jump start.
Barry said: “I was starting the race mid pack which isn’t a problem, but
as the lights turned green the driver directly in front put
the power down far too early. Unfortunately I was focused on him and
followed but quickly realised he and I were both jumping the start so
came off the power and held back. I made no advantage and in fact I
went backwards as a result losing several places. Still – I was black
flagged so that’s racing for you!” Highlights of the start can be found

Matt said: “After our black flag on lap 2 we found ourselves once
again at the back of the pack with it all to do. However, unlike
previous races it was going to be a tall order to make our way forward
being down on power. We needed to get our heads down
and make up every place possible but during the opening hour of this race
I felt like the championship lead we had built up over the season was
heading in the wrong direction with our closest rivals fighting it out
at the front.”
Over the remainder of the race, Team G3pro managed to pull it back and
come home in 9th place. Barry said: “It wasn’t the race we hope for, but we
can be happy with the points we got which all count towards our end
game which is the title.”
Meanwhile over at Team Farécla, driver Craig was once again joined by
stand-in super sub drivers Fernando Moreira and George Turner from our
good friends at Koks Racing as Farécla’s own Stewart Luetchford was
tending to his expectant wife (congratulations to both of them for the safe arrival of a baby boy!).
During qualifying, Craig quickly got into the groove around the Whilton
Mill circuit and was able to qualify 12th in class.
Craig said: “The start of the race was entertaining as ever; I managed
to pick up a few places and then held my own until the first round of
True to form, Team Farécla, after making their way forward to first in
class, managed to pick up a black flag mid-way through the race having
built up such a commanding lead. Though harsh, the penalty didn’t
totally put them out of contention as they re-joined the race in 7th
Undeterred, the trio of drivers unleashed everything they had over the
remaining 74 laps – slowly but surely they moved up the order
determined to get on the podium. With five laps to go they managed to
do the impossible and move into third place to finish once again in a
trophy position and claim the Whilton Mill hat trick for team HQ.
Craig said: “An amazing drama-filled race for both teams; I need to thank
my team mates who once again did an amazing job!”
The teams now head to Buckmore Park in Kent on Saturday (21st November) for the season
finale, with final Championship positions to be decided watch this space.
