Team G3Pro and Team Farecla joined forces to do battle at their first European Club100 race at Spa-Francorchamps earlier this month, read how the guys faired against 39 teams vying for glory.
On day one the team competed in four 30-minute races, followed by three one-hour races, and with points awarded for each race, all the G3Pro drivers knew they had a tough day ahead, not helped by temperatures topping 30 degrees.
Action-packed races saw highs and lows for the amalgamated G3Pro – engine issues in races 1, 2, and 7 made life very difficult, whilst winning races 3, 4, 5 and 6 boosted the team’s hopes for a podium finish. And the hard-fought win in race 7 wasn’t to last very long as G3Pro were handed a one-lap penalty for a last lap incident.
The day ended with the following results:-
Sprint rounds 1-4
Race 1: 11th
Race 2: 9th
Race 3: 1st
Race 4: 1st
Endurance rounds 5-7
Race 5: 1st
Race 6: 9th
Race 7 Result: 1st *Last lap ABC penalty applied – 7th
Going into day two’s action sharing 3rd place on the leader board, G3Pro had it all to do in the morning and afternoon two-and-a-half hour races.
Thunderstorms were peppered throughout race 1, which saw probably the team’s hardest-fought race of the weekend which ended up with another class win.
Going into the afternoon race, G3Pro were sitting in second place overall but with the best will in the world, it wasn’t to be a good race. The kart was taken out twice during the opening five laps, pushing G3Pro down the pecking order and alas something they were unable to fight back from – the team finished overall in 6th place
Endurance rounds 8-9
Race 8: 1st
Race 9: 14th
Driver Matt Hale said: “It was an amazing job from all the guys. The competition was feisty as ever – naturally, I am disappointed with the some of the luck we had as we were basically dropped three rounds before we had got started, and I was on the wrong end of a bad call during race 7 which would have made the difference in our final overall result.
“With that said it was great fun – the track was fantastic, probably the best track I’ve driven. I look forward to 2017 already where I hope we can put things right.
“Finally a special thanks to all the Club100 staff for putting on a great weekend of racing, and to photographer Laura MacMillan for taking some wonderful photos.”
