So Close, Yet So Far

After a successful qualifying round, Team G3 started the races at Rye House in 2nd position. Making good headway, they stayed ahead of other rookies on the grid and also overtook racers in the Intermediates class who were competing at the same time.

Massive improvements were seen in the team’s overall performance, as Stewart Luetchford explains: “Last time our pit stops were a real weakness, but we’ve been practicing and they’re now spot on. With that and the progress made in our racing in general, it was definitely our best race as a team.”

They held 2nd position for 157 laps and over 130 miles. However lap 158 – just 17 laps from the end – saw Team G3 fall behind following a collision with another driver and were out of the race for 2 laps. Even so, they pushed through and finished 5th.

Stewart continues: “We’re really disappointed about the end result, but being so close to a podium finish has just made us more determined to succeed. For next time, we’ll aim for another strong qualifier and will push to get to race pace immediately…we’ll also do our best to stay out of trouble!”

Team G3 remain 5th in the championship and their next race is on 25th May at Ellough Park.
