Round 9 Preview
We are fast approaching a very busy weekend in motorsport. The season conclusion of the 2013 British Touring Car Championship takes place at Brands Hatch and Sebastian Vettel has the chance to clinch the driver’s crown at the Japanese Formula 1 Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Team G3 continue their hunt for championship glory at Whilton Mill.
Matt, Barry and Stewart are feeling in a buoyant mood following an impressive and hugely entertaining race at Clay Pigeon. This last round saw the team display a strong qualifying session and solid pace and teamwork throughout the race; you can see all this on their video here. The team agree that improvements can still be made and the focus is firmly on the final three races of the season, which all require strong points gains to grant them a finish within the top five of the championship.
The trio last visited Whilton Mill in round 6 on one of UK’s hottest days of the year. On this occasion they ran a podium position for majority of the race, however they finished 10th following a disappointing mechanical issue. For those who didn’t catch it, you can watch the race highlights here.
TeamG3 driver Stewart shares his comments: “Our focus at Whilton Mill is to find the balance between pushing to be the quickest and showing controlled aggression. Keeping the kart on the track is critical; it’s a fine line between racing on the edge wheel-to-wheel and going beyond the edge and spinning off the track, or even going wide and missing apex’s which will ultimately lose us crucial time.
“Personally, it’s going to be an interesting one on Saturday. I’m going to be qualifying for the team and starting the race, so the pressure is on. Although I’ve been doing my homework so I’m feeling calm – I’m just aiming to keep out of trouble and find my rhythm quickly.
“I enjoyed Whilton Mill on my last visit; it’s a high speed circuit with speeds up to 85mph. I also know which corners I’m quick at and which ones I need to improve upon.”
