Round 11 Preview
Team leader Matt Hale shares his thoughts before Team G3 face the Club 100 Endurance Championship finale this Saturday.
Well, we can’t quite believe it ourselves but the final race of the season is upon us. Ten months of racing is nearly over and it all comes down to the 11th race at our home track, Rye House on the Herts/Essex border.
We sit fourth in the championship which is an excellent position for Team G3, but it hasn’t been without its battles as regular readers will know.
For instance, at Llandow qualifying didn’t go as well as expected because it was hard to get a clear run, but this is something we will work on at Rye House. Starting 10 rows back in the thick of the action meant the challenge was on – it meant more danger and Barry received the first black flag of the season for contact with another driver. We felt it was a bit unjust, but we fought our way back in the course of the 160-mile track in true Team G3 style, highlights of which can be found here.
The joy of Rye House is that it’s such a familiar track to us. I’ve been visiting there since a teenager, and over the years Stewart and Barry have been bitten by the bug and enjoyed several track sessions there. Of course, being the last race means it’ll be everyone in it for their teams – and quite rightly so – but we’ve got to make sure we don’t make any silly mistakes whilst getting caught up in the final frenzy of it all. We’re also hoping that birthday boy Stewart kicks off his celebrations by helping to get us to the podium finish that’s been so close for us – what a great present that will be for him.
For our next and final post, we will talk more about the season and what it has meant to us (and what your support has meant for us!), and we’ll be posting a special video with highlights of the 2013 season.
