Round 1 Victory for Team G3pro
Team G3pro (Matt & Barry) opened the account with a dominating class 3 race win at Round 1 at Buckmore park. The pair finished 19 seconds in front of their closest rivals after a gruelling 150 laps race (equivalent of 110 miles!) with 34 teams competing for glory.
But back to the start…the day started well with Matt clinching pole position on the last lap of qualifying, whilst Stewart put in a great effort for team Farecla G3 to qualify in 12th (3rd in class 4). At the start of the race, both teams were able to capitalise on starting toward the sharp end at the front of the grid, with Matt managing to maintain the lead going to the first round of pit stops and Stewart making his way up to it up to 3rd overall from 12th on the grid (1st in class) an outstanding effort.
Team G3pro had to push extremely hard throughout the race and battle hard with new title contenders Koks Racing – both teams swapped places several times before a pit stop issue for Koks enabled Team G3pro to extend the lead, with clean driving from both Matt and Barry enabling them to take the victory when they crossed the line.
New driver Craig Luetchford made his debut with Team Farécla – sister team to G3pro – but it ended on a sour note having survived a high speed crash and fighting back from the back of the grid to finish in 3rd place for only the team to be disqualified at the end for being 100grams under weight.
Driver Stewart Luetchford said: “It was an amazing effort from Matt and Barry for a great first race win of the season; as for myself and Craig we were gutted to be disqualified and found that during Craig’s crash a piece of lead ballast had broken off the kart which is why we came under weight.
“We know we deserved to be on the podium but rules are rules and we will make sure that this doesn’t happen again.”
Matt echoed Stewarts comments, saying: “It was very bitter sweet. Finishing in front of a professional racing outfit such as Koks Racing is something that I’m obviously very happy about as its going to be difficult to replicate; however I feel very disappointed for Craig and Stewart to have missed out due to such a small margin having race hard fair all race. Still that’s motorsport for you – lots of things can go well for you and the opposite is also true.
“The good news is that we got off to a good start and there is still plenty more racing for Farecla G3 to finish on the podium.
The teams are now looking towards round 2 which on Saturday (14th March) at Ellough Park Raceway, Suffolk. Highlights from an action-packed Buckmore Park round 1 video can be view here Buckmore Park race highlights
