Highs and Lows at Oulton Park
Round 4 of the BTCC turned out to be perhaps the most turbulent round of the championship so far! With excellent results from the previous round at Thruxton, Team HARD was confident but realistic about Oulton Park.
Qualifying went well for Onslow-Cole, who qualified just outside the top ten. High drama then followed with collisions from the very start of Race 1, which Tom avoided allowing him to climb from 10th up to 1st. This wasn’t to last however as the car’s tyres degraded from the challenging circuit, slowing its pace and causing him to drop to 15th.
Race 2 saw improvements for Team HARD. Changing tactics and running soft tyres, a solid driving technique saw Tom move up to 11th.
The final race of the day however was another crash course and Onslow-Cole couldn’t avoid it this time; he had worked up to 6th before falling foul of the chaos on track. Dropping to 7th, the Passat was damaged at the rear with a puncture among its war wounds. This proved to be the end of the weekend for Tom, but he was satisfied with his performance as a whole.
Overall, the weekend was one of highs and lows but it’s great to see Team HARD sitting so comfortably within the top ten. Tom showed real promise throughout the whole weekend and the team are showing great potential for the coming races.
The next round at Croft on 23rd June promises to be a great event, and hopefully we’ll see Tom rise up the leader-board!
