Fight Back at Clay Pigeon
Returning to one of their favourite tracks on the calendar, Team G3 headed to Clay Pigeon in Dorset on 1st June for Round 3 of the Club 100 Endurance Championship. They had a good start by qualifying in 10th place (2nd in class) an average performance by their current standards, but Team G3 driver Matt Hale started the race and quickly made up a place before contact sent him to the very back of the grid. From then on in, the team were on the back foot but undeterred, the guys put their heads down and started making up the lost places.
Midway through the race the team were flying and found themselves 5th overall (1st in class) attributed to a combination of fast driving and super smooth pit stops. A podium finish looked secure but in true Team G3 drama hit when driver Stewart Luetchford, who’d had a lonely stint, came up behind a back marker carrying more speed and had to make a split-second evasive manoeuvre to avoid contact, resulting in a rare spin. Now a lap down, the team were back in 17th (7th in class) with it all to do, heroic drives for the remaining three stints saw the team climb valiantly back to 10th place (3rd in class) and earn a podium finish for the team. Driver Barry Luetchford commented: “Another race with its highs and lows; winning isn’t easy due to the competition we face each race but we have the speed and it’s kind of nice to be disappointed with a podium finish!”

This weekend the team travels to south Wales for Round 4 at Llandow. With the trio still heading the table, another top three finish is a must. Matt said: “We will be looking to improve on our starts; we keep making it difficult for ourselves by being overly aggressive but we’re hopeful for another good race and plan on staying with the current tactics.”
