Double Podium for Team G3Pro
Team G3Pro returned to their home circuit for Round 2 of the Club100 championship at Rye House raceway, Hertfordshire, whilst Team Farécla G3Pro had a weekend of endurance racing while they took part in individual racing on the Sunday.
The duo from Team G3Pro were hoping for their luck to change after a disappointing round 1 at Buckmore Park where the team suffered a race long engine issue and finished towards the back.
Greeted by a wet track, the team went out in practice looking to get on the pace quickly. Both Matt and Barry felt at home immediately and started putting in some quick laps, as qualifying session started, Matt put in a string of quick laps and headed to the top of the time sheets, however, on the last lap Matt backed off and didn’t complete the lap and unfortunately went from 5th down to 21st.
The start of the race was hectic as ever, highlights of which can be found here:-
Matt said: “It wasn’t ideal starting from the back. I knew that we had our work cut out although we’d been in the same situation before so I knew it was possible to salvage something from the race. We just had to keep calm and play the long game whilst staying composed.
Next out on track was Barry who gave another outstanding performance. He said: “We were in 17th place by the time I got out on track and I knew it was going to be difficult to move forward. The teams in front are all very experienced and would be on the pace, I just put my head down and gave it everything I had.
Over the 178 lap race, the Team G3Pro drivers both put on a master class in driver skill and were able to move into the top three. Towards the final 40 minutes of the race the pair took the lead in an immense battle with their old time rivals Koks racing. After trading places several times Team G3Pro finished in a hard fault second place to finish once again on the podium and only to be denied victory by seven seconds; whilst the team were initially disappointed by the poor start to the day, the final result felt like a win for them.
Driver Matt said: A well-deserved victory for our friends at Koks Racing. We raced wheel to wheel towards the end of the race and we both gave enough racing room for each other. They were on the pace for the whole race and made some impressive strategic calls during the pit windows, something we need to work on at Round 3. I can already see that they, along with Team DGB, are title contenders.
Team G3Pro Drivers Matt Hale, Stewart Luetchford and Craig Luetchford had also entered into some extra competition at their home track with some individual sprint racing on the Sunday, with over a 100 drivers taking place all three drivers put in some great performances in some terrible conditions. G3Pro driver Matt had cause for double celebrations after finishing the day in 2nd once again and took home yet another trophy to Farecla HQ
The teams now head to Lydd in Kent on Saturday and hope for good conditions to make their mark in the races. They really appreciate all of your support so don’t forget to visit the Facebook page and follow them on Twitter!
