Why a Bonnet Painting Competition?

With apprenticeships and young talent higher up the agenda nationally and specifically within bodyshops and the automotive industry – Farécla launched the Apprentice & Student Bonnet Painting Competition in March 2018 to celebrate and reward the excellence that exists within our industry’s current crop of young painters and increase awareness of the automotive refinish sector to the prospective next generation in a fun, engaging manner.

Having seen painted bonnets on display when Farécla visited technical colleges – bonnet painting seemed like a natural fit!

THE CONTEST

Formally launched during National Apprenticeship Week; the entry form and competition rules were uploaded to the Farécla website.

With a £1000 Grand Prize for the bonnet that best captured the brand look of Farécla (black with a hint of yellow) word soon spread with bodyshops and colleges registering to take part!

To assist entrants with the creation of their bonnet, Farécla sent a free product pack containing Farécla polishes, applicators and flexible paint cups to each bodyshop/college taking part. Entry packs were prepared throughout April and dispatched shortly thereafter.

The full judging panel for the Grand Final (due to take place in October) was announced throughout May.

Farécla exhibited with an example bonnet at the Body Repair Industry Apprentice Awards (BRIAA) in Coventry in June 2018.

Deadline for Entry Forms: 6th July 2018
Deadline for Bonnet Photo (+ Video) Submission: 1st August 2018

THE FINALS

The Semi-Final

Having shortlisted the submitted bonnets in August 2018 – the Farécla website displayed the 10 Semi-Finalists to the public for the first time within the competition with the option to vote for your favourite – over 1600 votes were registered in the first 24 hours!

The five Grand Finalists were announced in mid-September.

The Grand Final

The Final Five bonnets were brought to Farécla HQ where they were examined by:
