Another Podium Finish for Tom Onslow Cole
The fifth round of the BTCC at Croft was another dramatic weekend of racing. Team HARD drivers had a mixed weekend as the turbulent British weather gave way to torrential rain between races.
It was another successful round for Tom Onslow-Cole who gained his third podium finish of the season, allowing him to maintain his position of 9th in the overall championship standing.
Tom found it difficult to challenge for position in the first race, and matters seemed to get worse after a shower before the second race. Amid concern over which tyres to pick Tom opted for dry-weather tyres, hoping that the poor weather would pass. It was a risk worth taking; when the weather cleared he was able to rise up the grid from 10th to 3rd! “The race went brilliantly,” said Tom, “Once I was in the top five I figured I could be on for a podium. Then I got into third place and could see the leaders [and] I thought I might even be able to sneak a win. They got away from me but another podium was a real lift for me personally and for everyone in the team.”
The heavens opened for the final race of the weekend and all of the drivers faced a sodden circuit. Unfortunately a large puddle on the track spelled the end of the weekend’s racing for many of the drivers, including Tom and other Team HARD drivers James Cole and Jack Goff.
Team HARD are remaining positive though. “Croft was a mixed weekend for us,” Tom commented after getting a 10th place finish in race one, 3rd place in race two and 12th place in race 3. However he is confident that there is more to come, “I was thrilled with the podium but we still have things to do to make the car even faster. I am very optimistic about the second half of the season.”
Be sure to keep up with the results of the next round at Snetterton in Norfolk on the 4th of August!
