A Tough Race For Team G3
Team G3 went into Race 4 at Ellough Park looking for their first podium finish. The day got off to a good start with perfect weather for racing; Matt, Stewart and Barry were confident in their strategy that had already seen them rise up the leader board from a respectable 10th place to their highest position of 5th within three races.
After qualifying the team went into the race in 22nd place. Undeterred, the team put in a valiant effort but found themselves battling for position. Team member Matt had noticed problems with the kart earlier in the day: “we were doing everything to keep up the pace, but the tyres were shot giving low grip to contend with; we were also down on power from the start.”
After over two hours of driving and 145 laps, Team G3 pulled their position back to finish in a very respectable 8th place; an outstanding achievement given that their exhaust manifold snapped, forcing them to bring out a new kart with just 20 laps to go!
Matt was optimistic after the hard fought race. He said that although disappointed with the result the team are still “confident in the race strategy going into the next event.” He continued to say, “although we won’t be making any tactical changes before the next race, we learnt a valuable lesson in ensuring the kart is well tested during qualifying to prevent problems occurring later on.”
Confident in their driving skills and sitting in a very good 5th position overall, Team G3 are ever more determined to get that podium finish in round 5 of the championship at Clay Pigeon on the 15th June. The team are raring to go and can’t wait to improve on their already impressive first season!
