2nd place honours for sister team Farécla
After the a run of bad results at Buckmore Park and Ellough Park, Team Farécla travelled to round three with one goal – to finish on the podium.
Craig Luetchford, joined by stand in driver George Turner, had only driven the Red Lodge circuit the day before during testing, and this inside track knowledge proved to be invaluable when it came to the race on the following day.
Qualifying duties fell to Craig who managed to secure eighth place on the grid. Unfortunately heavy traffic throughout the session hampered him putting together a clean lap otherwise the team would have started further towards the front. With that said, it could have been worse and the team was set for an exciting start to the race.
A race start is a daunting task for any driver, experienced or not, as there’s so much to learn, so much to gain and lose – the pressure is really on! But Craig kept his cool and managed to pick up a few places whilst avoiding the carnage unfolding around him. After gaining some breathing room, he safely completed his first stint and made the first of five stops. After this superslick pit, he handed over the reins to George who quickly set about moving the team forward. Midway through the race the team found themselves leading the class 4 field and things were seemingly going well until an overly aggressive move by a competitor forced the team into a spin, losing valuable time and more importantly track position. Now they had a tough challenge on their hands trying to fight up the order again from fifth place – fortunately both drivers were up to the challenge and put in two perfect runs to fight back and cross the chequered flag in second place securing the team’s maiden podium.
After the race Craig said: “That was a tough race – we are both obviously delighted to have finish on the podium but we do feel we were good enough for the win; that’s motorsport for you! A massive thank you to my team mate George who put in some heroic driving and also to all the guys at Koks Racing for helping our team during the day. It’s not a long wait until round 4 and I look forward to keeping this momentum going.”
